What is the Supervisory Committee?
The Credit Union Supervisory Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Board of Directors and management of the credit union:
Meet required financial reporting objectives; and
Establish practices and procedures sufficient to safeguard members’ assets.
What are the responsibilities of the Supervisory Committee?
To carry out the responsibilities the supervisory committee must determine whether:
Internal controls are established and effectively maintained to achieve the credit union’s financial reporting objectives which must be sufficient to satisfy the requirements’ of the supervisory committee audit, verification of members’ accounts and its additional responsibilities;
The credit union’s accounting records and financial reports are promptly prepared and accurately reflect operations and results;
The relevant plans, policies, and control procedures established by the Board of Directors are properly administered; and
Policies and control procedures are sufficient to safeguard against error, carelessness, conflict of interest, self-dealing and fraud.

Who is eligible and what skills are required?
Those running for a Supervisory Committee position must be:
Of legal age
A primary member of Pheple FCU
In good standing with the credit union
Given the Committee’s focus, the ideal candidates:
Think strategically
Have a passion for the financial well-being of the Credit Union and our members
Are good communicators
Work well with others
This is a great opportunity for an unpaid internship or a recent retiree.
How Long Would I Serve, and What is My Commitment?
Each Committee member gets elected to a three-year term and may apply to the Board of Directors to be re-nominated if they so choose.
We estimate a general time commitment of roughly two hours per month.
The Pheple FCU Supervisory Committee generally holds twelve monthly meetings.
Most monthly Committee meetings are held in the evenings.
